Ó Raghallaigh - (O) Reilly - Co Cavan - Uí Briuin Breifne

Garrett "Kinsale" O'Reilly

Garrett came from Cavan at the time of the battle of Kinsale in 1603.  He was the first to settle in Scarriff, County Kerry, Ireland.

Thanks go to Mary Merriman of Dublin, Ireland, for supplying this information to a new cousin who had given up on the O'Reilly line.  I was happy to bring her up to date where James and William and descendents were concerned.  I am greatly indebted to Mary for sharing her information and for giving permission for me to upload it to this site.

James and William O'Reilly

Brothers James and William O'Reilly arrived in the United States from Scarriff, County Kerry, Ireland, some time before 1884.   James is listed in the 1900 Census of Hawaii as a Cornice Maker.  William's Death Certificate lists him as a Cement Worker.

James married a lady named Elizabeth "Bessie" last name unknown in California and they had two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Josie.  Bessie died in 1898 either before or after James left for Hawaii to work on the huge building project going on there.  The girls joined him there in 1900.  Mary met her future husband, Albert Emil Barth, who was also working there in the building trades.

William does not appear to have married and is listed on his Death Certificate as Single.
